Bihar is a state in the northeastern part of India. The state capital of Bihar is Patna. On November 15, 2000, the state was divided and a new state, Jharkhand, was formed. Bihar is bounded on the east by West Bengal, on the west by Uttar Pradesh, on the south by Jharkhand and on the north by Nepal. The river Ganga is the major river in these states. The state of Bihar has an ancient and historical heritage. There are many Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the state. Bihar got its name from the Buddhist monastery.
