            The state of Assam is considered to be one of the largest and most important northeastern states in India. Assam is the largest state in Eastern India. The adjoining states of Assam are Nagaland and Manipur to the east, Meghalaya, Mizoram to the south and Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh to the north of Tripura. Assamese is the main language of Assam. Dispur is the capital of Assam. Guwahati is the largest city in Assam. There are many traditions in the cultural life of Assam. Bihu is a famous dance of Assam. Assam also plays a major role in India's tourism sector. There are many tourist and religious sites in Assam. 

    Guwahati: The capital city of the state of Assam. The city is situated on the river Brahmaputra. It is said that Narakasura founded this city. Kamakhya here. The goddess has a flour. Vasisthal Ashram, Umananda Mandir. The constellation is famous. 
    Kaziranga: A world famous sanctuary on the Brahmaputra river in the state of Assam. Sanctuary famous for rhinos. The sanctuary is listed by UNESCO. 
    Shivsagar: There are many memorabilia of Ahom Rashtra period. There is a magnificent Shiva temple. Queen Mandabika has built the capital of Ahom kingdom around Shivsagar lake in her time
    Majuli: The largest island on the Brahmaputra river. Center of Vaishnava sect. There are many temples of Vaishna and Sampradaya. Scenic tourist center. Silchagar: Famous Shiva Parvati Temple. The vast expanse of the Barak River. The area was named Shanti Vdip by the then Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi. 
    Hajo: A sacred religious site in Assam. A unique confluence of Hinduism, Buddhism and Muslimism can be seen here. Hayagriva Madhav Temple, Pova Makkath, Kameshwari Temple, Kedareshwar Temple, Temple, Joy Durga Temple are famous.
